  1. This looked like a lesson I was very interested in because of the homework Tutor and of course interesting activities to complete. Unfortunately, I am still outside of Alaska and my URL location will not allow me to access
the tutor.com website until I return to Alaska so I must skip this lesson until next month.

  5. Hey Ginny! I watched the screencast you sent me on the cover letter edits. Fascinating. Caveat: I've designed and am teaching 2-day workshops on how professionals can find archives jobs. I liked that the tutor said she was just focusing on editing/proof-reading, but if I were taking my cover letter to somebody for help, I'd expect--and I give--a lot more than that. I'm wondering if this service is being oversold a little as something it isn't? And by the way, I'm hoping you're not thinking of going anywhere, but if you ever need help with a cover letter, I'd be glad to assist. I'll need to see the job ad, though. How else to gauge if the cover letter is on target?

    1. Arlene, I agree some aspects of the LHH service are a bit over hyped. I understand the necessity of having the service set up the way it is but it’s too bad Alaskan’s cannot access the LHH outside of Alaska. That means if a student is traveling out of state (on a college visit or to get medical treatment) when they might need the service the most, they can’t access it. Also I spoke with several library pages who attend high school here in Juneau to get their impressions of LHH. One told me that the tutors available for AP courses, especially science and math are limited. One student had a story about waiting 45 minutes for a tutor and even after the session turning in an incomplete homework assignment. On the plus side, I wish I would have known about this service when my son was struggling with Biology I. Also on the screencast you watched, the tutor asked me “Okay, so, you just need me to edit this, correct?” and I confirmed that was correct. Thanks sharing your insights and feedback! Good luck with your workshop, it sounds like an interesting and educational project. Ginny

  7. Wow, I thought that using the tutor's help for creating a cover letter and resume was fantastic. The tutor was thorough and asked good questions to help me craft a good letter. See my post on geotech librarian's blog.
BTW: i wish that the links on the Digital Resources class page would be targeted at a new window, rather than going directly to the link. It's an additional step to have to remember when working through the links. Thanks, L

  8. Did anyone else get disconnected midstream with a tutor? I was reconnected but to a different tutor. The second tutor had no idea how that had happened.
